Our story. |
|
I was born on June 10,1946 in Nampa , Idaho at the Good Samaritan Hospital. The building still is in use by North West Nazarene University. I grew up on a farm in Melba, Idaho, graduating from Melba High School in 1965. In the fall of 1966, I attended McPherson College in McPherson Kansas. I married Deanna Forney in June 1966 at my Home Church , Bowmont Church of the Brethren. While attending College, began my shoe selling career at J.C. Pennies. Upon moving back to Idaho, (1967) I worked for The Bon Marche in Boise. From Boise, I became a Divisional Manager for the Bon in Richland Washington, where our Son Robert was born (July 9, 1969) . We closed out the Richland Washington Store, and opened a group of 3 stores in the new Tri-cities Mall. From Richland we moved to Pendleton, Oregon to become the Department Manager for the Bon there. In 1972, Pastor Dick Kiem, at Bowmont Church of the Brethren, died. The Bowmont Church called me to serve as Pastor. I continued selling shoes for the Bon in Boise, serving the church part time. Our daughter Paula was born in Nampa, August 6, 1971. In the Spring 1972, I began selling shoes for Dahles Big and Tall. The Church of the Brethren, District of Idaho, ordained me to ministry in 1973. Our son Mark was born October 4, 1974. I went back to college at Boise State and began my ministry at Boise Valley Church of the Brethren where, I served for 8 years. In 1981, was called to be pastor ay Salkum Church of the Brethren in Salkum Washington. While at Salkum, we started SOMMA Food Bank and served as an E.M.T. for the Salkum Fire Department. In 1990, I accepted the Call to begin a new Church start in Pacific South West District in Moreno Valley California. While in California, I served as PSWD Youth Counselor, serving 4 Church Camps, in California and Arizona. We were Charter Members of the Moreno Valley Optimist Club, and in 1997, I was awarded The Moreno Valley Citation Award for our work with Schools District, and the City youth programs. . January 1, 1998, I became Pastor at Mountain View Church of he Brethren in Boise. Mountain View has been a wonderful calling. We helped establish Bethel Ministries, in 2000. Bethel is a transitional housing ministry for men on parole from Prison. Some of which are sex offenders. We currently have 3 houses and have helped nearly 100 men transition back in to the community. ( Recidivism rate of Bethel gradates is less than 6%). Each November men gradate from the Bethel program. In 2008, I am honored to became Board Chair for Good Samaritan Home, a low income home for low income older adults. We will continue work with Good Samaritan and Bethel Ministries September 1, 2009 I retired as Pastor at Mountain View. God continues to lead us to serve our community in many ways. Next Year, we plan on begin work as an advocate for Redemptive Justice in the State of Idaho. In a new Ministry “FREE2SERVE” , we will continue helping couples beginning marriage and families with counseling services, We also will be serving with celebration of life services, and grief, and loss counseling though Bowman Funeral Chapel. .
To God be the glory and our neighbors good. |
